BY Ralph SeeramI was saying the man’s ego was bigger than his mansion, when another passenger in the car chimed in, that his ego was bigger than Guyana. The man has no shame; some would argue that Bharrat Jagdeo has passed that stage a very long time ago.Long before, he brazenly and “barefacedly” gave away free radio licenses to his friends, family and cronies before leaving office in 2011.By now most of you know that Jagdeo is returning to lead the PPP in Parliament as Opposition Leader.Apparently the PPP did not get the Memo the voters sent in 2011 and again last May 11. Their supporters either stayed away from the polls or switched to the AFC.Bharrat Jagdeo is toxic; Bharrat Jagdeo cannot win elections, as evident in 2011 and this year. When people see Jagdeo, memories of PPP corruption comes forth. Some would say that he is the face of corruption in the PPP.Visions of “backroom and secret” deals come to mind, the Hydro Project, the Airport Project, Marriott Hotel financing, and let’s not forget the single source supply of medicines from his friend,Bvb Trikot, Bobby Ramroop.Yes, even the PPP Central Committee did not get the Memo that Jagdeo is a “has been”, the electorate does not want him, and I am talking about the Guyanese electorate, not PPP supporters. The argument is that Jagdeo can bring out votes; that he has grass roots support. I have had very senior PPP leaders telling me this in the lead up to the last elections, and my answer was, getting out PPP votes is not your problem, they are your supporters,Cheap Soccer Jerseys Wholesale, you need the voter that will put you over the 50 per cent mark; you need the “swing voters” and the votes of your “former’ supporters who are disappointed with the direction the party has taken. One would have thought that after two successive electoral defeats, the PPP would analyze its failure and regroup. We are all familiar with the old saying ‘you can’t do the same thing over and over and expect a different result.’ Did the PPP get that Memo and choose to ignore it again.’Some people would argue that Jagdeo has single handed destroyed the PPP, destroyed the ideals of the PPP founder, Dr. Cheddi Jagan.Old PPP stalwarts have been gradually pushed aside to make way for Jagdeo and his handpicked subordinates. We know what happened in those years leading to the PPP defeat. Here, what is ironic; at the height of Bharrat Jagdeo power, Kemraj Ramjattan and Moses Nagamootoo were forced out of the PPP. No one could have foreseen at that time, that it signaled the unraveling of the PPP. No one could have forecast that those two would ultimately lead to the defeat of the PPP in two elections.Karma is a bitch. Today, Nagamootoo sits in the Prime Minister’s bench in Parliament and Jagdeo will be sitting in the Opposition Leader’s seat. One wonders if Jagdeo has the PPP interest at heart or his personal interest. In my opinion, if he had the PPP interest at heart,Chaussure Jordan Pas Cher Femme, if he wanted to see the PPP “bounce back” from two electoral defeats, he should have graciously stuck to his pledge and step aside. After being President for twelve years, and making public pronouncements that he would not seek public office again, you wonder why Jagdeo would humiliate himself to sit opposite Ramjattan and Nagamootoo in Parliament, with the latter two in power now.It comes back to Jagdeo’s ego. Many of you have seen so many boxers who after their prime, either come out of retirement, or hang on for one more fight only to get humiliated by younger stronger opponent. They did not come back for the money, but for the crowd cheering them,Manchester City FC Kit 2018/19, the adulations, the publicity,Manchester United Jersey Online, the celebrity status. They missed that.Power is like sex; you get a few orgasms you want more. Some orgasms come from humiliation; some people have to get a form of humiliation like bondage to satisfy themselves.Jagdeo does not care if he is humiliated, his appetite for power, his craving for one more “orgasm” takes over his rational thinking. Sex does that to you, power does that to you. What bothers me is, if Jagdeo’s ego took over his rational thinking, what happened to those in the PPP Central Committee? Here was the PPP’s chance to rebrand itself, to cleanse itself of the “undesirables”, inject new blood in leadership, to burnish its image for local government elections and for 2020 general elections.Instead, it brought back people like Ganga Persaud, Bheri Ramsaran and Lumumba. Yes they really are going to win the party votes. Most blatantly they put Jagdeo back as leader or as some would say Jagdeo put himself back as leader. Whichever is true,Maglia Inter 2018 19 Bambino, it signals that the Coalition can retain power come next elections, unless of course the APNU/AFC merger implodes or the two parties end up doing the same practices of the PPP.I can understand when the PPP was in power, there was some stranglehold on members to go along with the leadership, or be “blacklisted” from jobs, positions, favours and other “goodies”, that can be dispensed when the party is in power.I have had senior PPP leaders say that to criticize or even constructive criticism was not tolerated. Ralph Ramkarran is a perfect example of what I am talking. Today that is no longer the case; the PPP is not in power, no goodies” to hand out, the “gravy train” ride has ended. So what is there to be afraid of?The problem is what Ralph Ramkarran and Moses Nagamootoo were asking for. A free democratic election by secret ballot, not “show of hands”. It is my view and the opinions of many, that the present leadership of the PPP is afraid of secret ballots. And unless the PPP democratizes itself, by holding election by secret ballot by its entire membership, the party is doomed for the future. The young leaders in the PPP today will have to show some “balls”; they will have to stand up to the old leadership like Jagdeo if there is going to be any party for them to lead in the future. Despite his famous “phone call” Anil Nandlall might have made a better and more important creditable leader of the opposition than Jagdeo.Yes the PPP is in a downward spiral. The members may not realize it but the party will suffer a slow but sure death under the leadership of Jagdeo. Oh,Chelsea Fc Jersey 18/19, and for those die hard supporters who feel that it’s because of Jagdeo the PPP got that nearly 50 per cent of the votes, think about why you did not get the one per cent. Only one percent you needed. Guess who you think turned off that elusive one per cent, by his “cuss down” rhetoric. Yes you guessed it, you are smart, smarter than those in the PPP.Ralph Seeram can be reached at email: [email protected] and Facebook.

“Municipality does not have the funds to facilitate works to the Stabroek wharf”- Hamilton GreenWork on the falling Stabroek wharf appears to be moving slothful and remains unclear when the commencement will begin. However the reasons for the procrastination are yet controversial as responses within the Municipality differ. The dilapidated structure began falling late last year, when it was struck by high winds. Last month another section of the structure collapsed,Wholesale Shoes From China Free Shipping, crushing stalls below. Thankfully no one was hurt in those incidents. The structure which is likely to further collapse at any given time, is still posing a possible death threat to those plying trades in the vicinity of the hazardous structure. This,Cheap Liverpool Shirts 18/19, in the commonsense of any individual, would be an issue that should be addressed sooner than later. For a prolonged period, there has been some blame throwing and bickering within the City Council to ascertain when the falling wharf will be addressed but officials have since been unable to make a decision. This was insinuated after Town Clerk, Carol Sooba, indicated to a Kaieteur News reporter that she would be meeting with the City Engineer, Colvert Venture, on several occasions to make a decision on executing the demolition of the structure. However both parties have since been unable to ascertain when and how the works on the wharf would begin and further be completed.Georgetown Mayor, Hamilton Green, at a press conference last week,Tottenham Home Shirt 2018/19, said that he and the Town Clerk rarely have a “civilized” conversation. It could be implied that the two may not have had formal discussions on the issue, which is of concern to citizens.A few weeks ago, the Mayor also stated that “the decisions of the Mayor and Councillors are being challenged by the Town Clerk and Local Government.” Green has since given a synopsis of why the commencement of works at the wharf has been procrastinated for such a long period. He said that the Municipality does not have the funds to facilitate works to the Stabroek wharf,Air Max 90 Uitverkoop, due to the Local Government Ministry’s denial of funds to maintain various facilities. He said that the government continuously denies the Council every opportunity to raise money. No organization can be effective without management. He explained that the monies that would have been earned by these fundraisers would have contributed to not only the maintenance of the Stabroek market but other municipality-related facilities.“The present Town Clerk Carol Sooba, with the connivance of the Minister of Local Government, Norman Whittaker, has been ignoring every decision and proposal made by the Mayor and Councillors,” lamented Green. “Unbelievable but true.”He said that “years ago, to deal with the financial squeeze imposed on the Council by the government, we initiated the collection of fees from the speedboat operators who docked their boats and discharged passengers at the Stabroek wharf. The idea was to use those funds to maintain and repair the said wharf.”A government Ministry stepped in to stop the exercise, an initiative of the former Clerk of the Market and the Mayor, and shift the operation further south to the government-controlled Transport and Harbours Department. The fees are now being collected by the Ministry of Works and Hydraulics, the same ministry that without notice closed down the money making car park, east of Stabroek Market, according to Green. He said, “it is the very Ministry that when the Council collected fees from certain companies to put up their signs on our parapets, broke the signs down.” This again prevented the Council from raising revenues.“This has been the pattern of the improper “bullyism” by the PPP\C administration.” Mayor Green said that the “sabotage” has now exacerbated with the improbation of the “diabolical,Cheap Shoes Nz, deceitful and wicked” Town Clerk,Basket Adidas Femme Pas Cher Chine, Carol Sooba. The Mayor is of the opinion that if the “sabotage” does not cease, the infrastructural development in the city will be crippled. Many things are already in a deteriorating state. The Mayor said that he recently instructed the Clerk of the Market not to allow anyone to operate in and around the area, which poses threat to life and limb.Meanwhile vendors have continued their trade at the wharf area. Because of need,Nike Air Max Salg, vendors are psychologically forced to remain under the life threatening conditions. When a Kaieteur News reporter visited the area, business was in full swing.

By Latoya GilesPresident Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday handed out the first batch of netbook computers under the One Laptop Per Family Programme at the National Cultural Centre. In his feature address to the large gathering of invitees/recipients, Jagdeo said that the new initiative offers great hope for the transformation of Guyana. The intended recipients in the audienceAccording to the President,Wholesale Authentic Soccer Jerseys, if one is to fully understand the context of what the government is trying to do, one would have to look at the experience of the world. For the past 20 years, he said, mankind has witnessed a global phenomenon,Maglie Milan 2018/19, a rapid growth in income as evidenced by growth in the stock markets around the world. He said that the world has seen a significant change in the way people relate and do business with each other.“If one was to examine the biggest companies for 20 years back today, the biggest companies that are worth billions are the ones existing in virtual reality,” he noted. He added that this translates to the creation of ideas and the ability to express those ideas through the internet would be important for future development for any country, especially those such as Guyana.“The world has seen this change globally, where goods and services move seamlessly across borders and we have seen the development of technology, where physical borders between nations are virtually non-existent. People in Guyana can communicate with their counterparts…technology has opened up this. This technology has been used widespread, in the developed countries, that got wealth from colonialism….that generated a lot of wealth on the backs of countries like Guyana.”Jagdeo said there is much need to close the technological gap, and this new project would close it significantly.Today, he said, many persons will be closer to transforming Guyana and their own families,Cheap Shoes Online Nz, and their children are equipped with it to better their knowledge base.“This is why I cannot view the computer as a piece of equipment, but as a partnership between government and citizens. That cable will be completed next year and would connect our hospitals, schools and police stations. In the cities and populated areas they would use the wimax system,Bvb Trikot 18/19, and about 80,000 people would have connectivity through that project.”In addition, he said that a Chinese company has been contracted to lay a fibre optic cable from Crabwood Creek to Charity and the president further told the gathering that the government would be working along with the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company in a partnership to help with the connectivity. He explained that it would not be broadband at the beginning, but it would change from time to time. The president noted that the government would be able to deliver education and other key elements related to Health, Security and E-Government applications. There would be computerized records for people.“Doctors stationed in outlying areas can communicate with their counterparts aboard,” Jagdeo stated. He said that they plan to have an online degree and once persons have access to the computer they would be able to complete their degree.Applicants will also have access to an “E Library” where they can read books without stepping foot into a library. The security sector he said would be helped in terms of modernizing crime fighting. With the deadly new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus continuing its slow but steady spread, concerns are being expressed about next month’s Ramadan,Shoes Nz Sale, when millions of Muslim pilgrims from all over the world will be converging on Saudi Arabia, the site of what appears to be an ongoing outbreak of the disease. The death of a Saudi man from the virus on Monday brought the kingdom’s death toll from the SARS-like infection to 34, according to the ministry of health.Other new cases have also been recorded, especially in Eastern Province where most of the infections have occurred, the ministry added on its website, noting that there have been 66 cases of infection from MERS in the kingdom since the disease surfaced. One week previously,Manchester United Jersey Online Sale, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said that 64 laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease had been recorded worldwide,Wholesale Air Jordan Shoes, including 38 deaths.MERS is a member of the coronavirus family, which includes the pathogen that causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), a disease that sparked global panic 10 years ago after it jumped to humans from animals in Asia and killed about 800 people.Like SARS, MERS appears to cause a lung infection, with patients suffering from fever, coughing and breathing difficulties. But it differs in that it also causes rapid kidney failure and appears far more lethal than SARS.Compared to SARS’ eight percent death rate, the fatality rate for MERS is about 65 percent, though experts concede that they could be missing mild cases that might skew the figures. While most of the cases have been concentrated in Saudi Arabia, the MERS virus has also spread to neighbouring Jordan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and cases have also been found in France, Germany, Italy, Tunisia and Britain. An international team of doctors who investigated nearly two dozen cases in eastern Saudi Arabia found the new coronavirus has some striking similarities to SARS.Unlike SARS,Cheap Air Max 90 Wholesale, however,Basket Adidas Femme Pas Cher Chine, scientists remain baffled as to the source of MERS.While SARS was traced to bats before jumping to humans via civet cats, the source of the MERS virus remains a mystery.
