The Chikungunya Virus is expected to remain constant in the Guyanese society. This deduction has been drawn byCommunicable Diseases Director,Nuova Maglia Juventus 18/19, Dr Morris EdwardsPublic Health Specialist,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, Dr. Morris Edwards, who currently holds the position of Director of Communicable Diseases within the Ministry of Health. Dr. Edwards’s disclosure was made during an interview with this publication yesterday. He intimated that much like dengue fever, the Chikungunya Virus will continue to remain a threat. Both Dengue Fever and the Chikungunya Virus are transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which is very prevalent in coastal areas. The virus is able to breed in stagnant but relatively clean water found in vases, tyres, puddles, guttering,NCAA Jerseys Wholesale, etcetera, that are easily fostered in and around yards. While there could not have been prevention of the entrance of Chikungunya to these parts, as it was an imported virus, Dr. Edwards did note that its impact could have been greatly minimised had the conditions conducive to the multiplication of the vector long been eradicated. The Communicable Diseases Director pointed out, “that now that the virus is here and the vector is very much here, we will continue to see a Chikungunya spread. Once there is an increase in the vector population you should expect that.”The symptoms of the virus can include: rash, vomiting/nausea,Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys, headaches, fevers and joint and muscle pains which are similar in the manifestation of dengue fever.Guyana has officially recorded a few hundred cases of the virus but this publication understands that there have been thousands of clinical cases seen at both private and public health facilities.According to Dr. Edwards, it has been found that the discomforts resulting from the virus could last for five to seven days in the majority of patients,Cheap Authentic Soccer Jerseys, while there are others who are subjected to the symptoms for even longer periods. “We will continue to see a threat (but) lucky for us it is not a serious illness like malaria because if it was then, we would have been faced with a greater challenge,” asserted Dr. Edwards.Once an individual recovers from Chikungunya, he or she is expected to develop life-long immunity to the virus, according to the Communicable Diseases Director,Basket Adidas Pas Cher Destockage, as he ruled out the possibility that Guyana could have been exposed to the virus ahead of an outbreak in May this year. “If it was then, we would have seen more cases and you would have seen the cases earlier but that didn’t happen; this is definitely new,” asserted Dr. Edwards.Confirmation of the presence of the Chikungunya Virus can be done through serological tests and since Guyana lacked capacity to test for the virus at the onset of the outbreak, it was dependent on the services of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad much like the other territories of the Caribbean. However, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shamdeo Persaud, in an earlier interview with this publication disclosed that while Guyana is yet reliant on CARPHA it has since,Basket Adidas Femme Pas Cher Chine, with the help of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), been able to train personnel of the local National Public Health Reference Laboratory to test for the virus here. He however, noted that while all the relevant equipment and (testing) kits are here to facilitate testing “we are awaiting some panels to determine positive and negative samples…so we can try the kits to make sure that when we test and it says positive, it is really a positive and they are going through that process now.”And even as sustained efforts are being made by the Health Ministry to bolster its fight against the virus through vector control, Dr. Persaud admitted that there just might be further need to strengthen the response in this regard.

Trades Union Congress This Labour Day Guyanese must re-commit to the struggle for social and economic justice as began by our fore-parents.Given what is taking place today it becomes opportune to assess the distance travelled, how much have been achieved, how much we have lost, and what it requires to achieve the creation of a just society.106 years after National Hero, Hubert Nathaniel Critchlow, staged the first organised workers’ struggle for economic and social justice, laying the ground work for a succession of events to realise improved conditions in the workplace and wider society,Air Max 90 Goedkoop, such advancement can no longer be taken for granted. For Critchlow and the labour community the battle cannot only be fought in the workplace,Adidas AlphaBounce Pas Cher France, it also has to be fought wherever injustice exists.Out of this conviction there have been many battles in the streets, legislature,Wholesale Authentic Soccer Jerseys, with governing authorities and business interests to ensure the workers benefit from the fruits of their labour and the resources of the nation. This relentless struggle achieved reduced work hours, improved working conditions,Equipacion Real Madrid 2018, one man one vote, right to self determination, political independence, and bringing awareness of the intertwined relations of the worker-employer wellbeing,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, wherein when such is justly treated it rebounds to the development of people and society.106 years after Critchlow’s first blow, as a people, the battle for basic rights should have ended in 1966, but since we are bearing witness to the daily erosion of the said rights, it is of import this battle continues until respect is secured, because ours is the responsibility to safeguard a future for our offspring, the way it was fought for and safeguarded for us by our fore-parents.Fellow Guyanese it is time to intensify and unite around the struggle for our common good!*******************PNCR On this anniversary of Workers’ Day in Guyana and in many other countries around the world, the People’s National Congress Reform takes this opportunity to salute working people everywhere as well as their organisations in the achievement of whatever gains they may have made during the past year.A survey of the international labour scene points to increasing hostility by employers, both state and non-state towards organised labour with some anti-working class elements peddling the idea that trade unions have outlived their usefulness. This is a dangerous trend and must be resisted by workers and their unions by whatever means necessary. In the circumstances, therefore, the PNCR urges the Trade Union movement in Guyana and the workers it represents to speak out boldly on this occasion for better wages and some form of cost of living allowance to cushion the effects of the rising cost of living. The Trade Union movement must also demand that the workers be empowered to cope with the ongoing global food crisis which has been recognised by the major international organisations, including the United Nations and which has already sparked riots in many countries.Any action contemplated by the unions in Guyana must be premised on the need for Trade Union unity. Workers must, therefore, insist that the extended fracture in the Trade Union movement is not to their benefit, but rather, creates the conditions for the PPP/C Administration to keep Trade Unions weak, while carrying out an assault on them in the form of:(i) Withdrawal of the subvention of the Guyana Trade Union Congress (GTUC).(ii) Removal of the annual Parliamentary approved subvention for the Critchlow Labour College.(iii) Arbitrarily, imposed salary increases well below the inflation rate.(iv) Passing legislation designed to intimidate members of the labour movement and to undermine the internationally recognised trade union body, the GTUC, and have it replaced by the so-called Federation of Independent Trade Unions (FITUG).On this occasion therefore the PNCR recognises the critical role that Trade Unions have played in the political, economic and social development of the country and asserts that such a role can only continue if the Trade Union Movement as a hole remains united and protect the interests of the workers of this country.Long Live Workers Solidarity! Happy May Day to all Workers!*************************PPP The People’s Progressive Party salutes the working class of Guyana on the occasion of Labour Day 2011 and notes its fortitude,Stitched NFL Jerseys Outlet, resilience and forward momentum. The Party which is the foremost defender of the working class in Guyana, calls for much greater unity in the trade union movement where national issues affecting the workers are concerned. It takes this opportunity to urge the trade union movement to take forward strides in the best interest of its membership. The PPP-Civic Government has from its historic inception on October 1992, been taking necessary and practical measures at governmental and other levels,Wholesale Jerseys China, in the best interest of workers of Guyana. These measures include:1. Regular wage increases on an annual basis2. Schemes for affordable housing throughout the nation3. Smothering of escalating fuel prices to keep down the cost of living4. Improvements in social services and the utilities5. Overall improvements in health care and medical services6. Zero tolerance to violent crimes, drug trafficking and domestic abuseThe Party takes the greatest pride in its stewardship of democracy and human rights; and in honouring and safeguarding the Constitution of the Republic of Guyana. All in all, considering the time span from October 1992 to May 2011, the positions of the working class in Guyana have not regressed, but instead have showed vast improvements and a strong forward momentum. The PPP-Civic states without any fear of reasonable contradiction that the future of the working class in Guyana is in good hands, where the PPP-Civic Government is concerned.

Following complaints to the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment,Cheap NFL Shop, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been directed to undertake investigations into the alleged dumping of sewage in the Princes Street Canal in Georgetown and in Bartica by Cevon’s Waste Management Inc. and Country Wide Disposal Services respectively.According to the Ministry yesterday, resulting from the investigation, both companies were requested to obtain environmental authorisation for their operations. Two sewage disposal companies have been ordered to apply for environmental permits in face of illegal dumping accusations. This request came as a consequence of reports reaching the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, the statement said. The EPA investigation revealed that the complaint related to dumping at the Princess Street canal was unsubstantiated.“However, the incident of sewage dumping at Bartica was substantiated although it was reportedly as a result of the sewage truck being stuck on the road. The EPA conducted an investigation this week regarding the complaint of dumping of sewage at the Princes Street Canal but observed that no dumping/disposal of sewage was being carried out in the area.”According to the Ministry, this observation was confirmed by the pump attendant who resides in close proximity to the canal. The attendant told Environmental Officers that the closest canal to the Princes Street area that leads into the Demerara River was at Sussex Street. As such, the Environmental Officers inspected the Sussex Street Canal and at the time of the inspection,Cheap Air Max 720, there was a bad smell coming from the Canal.“Further investigations revealed that persons would usually dump garbage and animal parts such as offal into the canal was causing odour nuisance. Speaking with a security guard in the area,Nike Air Max Valkoinen, the officers were told that no dumping of sewage had occurred at the canal.”According to the statement,Cheap Football Jerseys College, to conclude the investigation of the complaint of sewage dumping at Princes Street canal,China Soccer Jerseys, Officers visited the Kingston outfall.“However,Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic, at no time during the inspection was any truck from Cevon’s Waste Management observed in the area. Further, the EPA made contact via telephone contact with Cevon’s Waste Management Inc. and the Manager indicated that all sewage is dumped at the Kingston outfall and nowhere else within Georgetown.”EPA also conducted a joint investigation with the Overseer of the Bartica Neighbourhood Democratic Council regarding the dumping of sewage by Countrywide Disposal Services along the Bartica/Potaro Road, Region Seven.“Findings of the investigation revealed that the area where the sewage was dumped was densely vegetated and a small road running west of the Bartica/Potaro Road was cut through the area. The sewage had been dumped about six meters inwards, west of the Bartica/Potaro Road and south of the small road and a slight mal-odour was emanating from the area and some amount of sewage was visible.”According to the Overseer, on the said day of the incident,Cheap Jerseys, sewage was seen overflowing on to the Bartica/Potaro Road, and that Countrywide Disposal Services informed the NDC and other officials who were present at the scene, that the truck got stuck along the road on the way back to Georgetown and that some of the sewage had to be discharged in order to move the truck.“These two complaints on sewage dumping have prompted the agency to request both Cevon’s Waste Management Inc. and Country Wide Disposal Services to ensure that they obtain Environmental Authorization for their operations.”The Ministry noted that Countrywide Disposal Services has submitted an application for Environmental Authorisation for their operation located at Aubrey Barker Street, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.According to the Ministry, the company is still to submit outstanding documents.“In May this year, EPA conducted a site visit but cannot further process the application until the company submits outstanding documents.”

Customs Anti -narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks are hoping that they have got the break that they were looking for as a popular businessman,NFL Jerseys From China, believed to have major shares in the country’s second largest drug bust was arrested yesterday morning.Kaieteur News was told that around 09:00hours, a named city businessman, the owner of a pawn shop and several boutiques was arrested after his name came up during investigations into the 314 kilograms (692 pounds) of cocaine found in logs at a sawmill located at the Soesdyke/Linden Highway last month.Kaieteur News was told that the suspect was deported from the United States several years ago and had been residing in Guyana ever since. They said that they have reason to believe that the businessman may be the “kingpin”.In the meantime,Jerseys NFL China, other persons of interest are still reporting to the anti-drug squad. Three individuals, among them a Dutch national, Edgar Boesenach, of Coralita Avenue, Bel Air; and a Guyanese,NFL Jerseys From China, Raymond Ghani, the local manager at the Soesdyke sawmill were detained.A second Guyanese man was detained, while a forklift operator, who allegedly packed the drug filled logs which were found in the container destined for the Netherlands,Camo China NFL Jerseys, was rearrested when another suspect implicated him.CANU sources had said that the forklift operator appeared to have fair knowledge about the operation but told investigators less than he actually knew. The Dutch national and the Guyanese manager were arrested on the same day that CANU unearthed 314 kilograms of cocaine in hollowed-out timber which was due to be shipped to Europe.Sources said that investigators had been eyeing the timber company implicated in the bust for some time,Adidas Deerupt Pas Cher, since there were irregularities in the way they function. The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) also said that CANU had suspicions about the scanning anomalies that were discovered and thus opted to drill one of the logs. They said the Guyana Forestry Commission had already given the containers which were on the wharf some clearance to be shipped,Authentic Nike NFL Gear, but the GRA insisted that the lumber be checked again. The GFC said that it too noticed irregularities about the Soesdyke-based timber company. Two weeks prior to the drug bust, the sawmill had been closed down,Cheap Jerseys From China, because the company was allegedly engaged in four illegal shipments.
