She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. One of her favorite summers during college was spent working at Lake McDonald Lodge in Glacier National Park. After college she was employed by the Pillsbury company where she helped establish the annual Pillsbury Bakeoff at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. She was a fabulous cook and a wonderful hostess. She belonged to two cooking groups, Copy Cats and Grande Forques.
