Panthers lose another close one<br><br>After rallying from a 10point secondhalf deficit, the Panthers surrendered a late touchdown to lose 3027 to the New Orleans Saints today at Bank of America Stadium.Trailing by four with 7:06 remaining, the Saints showed why they have one of the NFL's most feared offenses, plowing down the field on an 89play drive that was capped by a sixyard touchdown pass from Drew Brees to Pierre Thomas with 50 seconds remaining.The Panthers elected not to use any of their three timeouts as the Saints closed in on a touchdown. They took over at their own 20yard line on the final possession. They got the ball to midfield but never got within field goal range for kicker Olindo Mare before time expired."We've said the same thing after four losses this year. We could've won. We should've won, whatever," tight end Greg Olsen said."But at the end of the day we didn't and that's all you're judged on this league. You don't get points for how much you lose by. We've got to find a way to win the game at the end. Whatever we're doing obviously is not working so collectively we have to do a better job."The loss dropped the Panthers to 14 and facing a trip to Atlanta next Sunday. The Saints improved to 41.Quarterback Cam Newton finished with 16 completions in 31 attempts for 224 yards while Brees passed for 359 yards. Saints tight end Jimmy Graham did much of the damage, catching 12 passes for 129 yards as the Panthers struggled to defend the former Miami Hurricanes basketball player."It's the same thing every week. We can take some positives that we're playing well but we're not winning. We've got to get the win. That's the only thing positive to me, getting the win," cornerback Captain Munnerlyn said.The Panthers wiped out a 10point deficit by scoring consecutive touchdowns to build a 2723 lead early in the fourth quarter.The first score came at the end of a 12play, 80yard drive that culminated with Newton bulling in from the NFL shop Black Friday 1yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Newton was intercepted while throwing to Steve Smith. Newton apparently expected Smith to turn toward the inside part of the field. Instead, Smith turned outside, allowing cornerback Patrick Robinson to make an easy interception, returning it to the Carolina 3yard line.It set up a oneyard touchdown pass to Jed Collins, giving the Saints a 70 lead after just 70 seconds.Trailing 100, the Panthers finally found a spark when Smith made a spectacular catch over Jabari Greer and raced 54 yards for a touchdown. However, Olindo Mare's extra point was blocked.The touchdown was spiced by a blatant hit by Saints' safety Roman Harper on Smith in the end zone, igniting a brief scuffle among several players.The Panthers trailed 2013 at halftime in large part because of their inability to stop the Saints on third down.
