ATB race prep complete

As you can see, I received most of my Around the Bay race working day prep carried out: I gathered every thing I require and laid it out this afternoon just to be certain I didn forget anything.

The climate tomorrow is proving difficult to strategy for because it most likely to be at minimum 10 degrees C when the race begins but be near to zero close to midday when I likely to end (ahem, or after.) Wind could really be a factor as nicely: the slightest breeze when it chilly has a bonechilling impact when you running.

So right here the option: gown a little hefty to be Okay at the begin and likely a small hot later on on or go minimalist and freeze early and warmth up as I go. Usually, I would choose the previous for a coaching run and the latter for race day but simply because I blogging from the course and consequently walking more than usual I don want to be chilly.

So right here what we got:

Top left: Nike Revenue lengthy sleeve foundation layer. It stretchy, comfy and has a mock neck so it does a great occupation maintaining heat in and shifting sweat out. These have have turn out to be my go to foundation layers. left: Columbia one/four zip lightweight fleece. An oldie but a goodie, I experienced this thing for ages but can fairly give it up. Fleece is great simply because it warm but insulates if it gets wet: other synthetics I have get sweaty, then freeze because they aren right next to my body. Quarter zip is great if I require to allow warmth out. If I was racing for a PB,cheap nike air max uk, I be swapping this out for something lighter or ditching it entirely.

Base center: MEC fleece tights. This was also a tough call I have lighter tights that I normally use in temps around zero but these are what I put on on chilly days (occasionally with operating trousers more than top if it really frigid, cheap nike air max 1.)

I depart the 2nd layer at house I sporting the shorts you can see in the center of the frame only because I don think anybody should be subjected to seeing my entrance and back again center business encased in tights.

Base right: the footwear are Brooks Habit 8, a pair that are just damaged in. I love these shoes and discovered two pairs in my hardtofind dimension (9 4E) on clearence in Cambridge (and sure, I have the feet of a platypus.) Brooks has up to date the model (Addiction 10) and aren carrying 4E in Canada. We Canucks have fat ft too, Brooks.

Center correct: fairly the gathering of things right here. We have my Garmin 305 watch and heart rate strap, Samsung MP3 player and headphones (iPod coming quickly), three Clif pictures (mmmm, cheap air max 1, Mocha with caffeine!) as nicely as my personal personal power gel concoction (I got sick of having to pay $2.25 for brown rice syrup, agave nectar, eco-friendly tea extract and cocoa powder. Now I make my personal for 25 cents.) We also have my race chip, connected to ankle strap. These are the new disposable chips, which I detest, simply because they have to be laced into my footwear. Well, I have bungee laces established just so and I don like to mess with them unless I completely have to so I do the ankle strap instead. And no, I don believe runners are persnickety at all, really.

Leading right: Nike jacket. Sure, I do have a lot of Nike things, now that you mention it, but only because I bought most of it inexpensive. This jacket came from the outlet store in Kitchener and was, like, 30 bucks. It light, great against the wind and it matches. Carried out and done. It could say "Bozo" with a clown encounter on it for all I treatment as long as it does the job.

Center top: Nike thermafleece hat ($six!!!!!), Running Space gloves and Oakley XLJ shades with strap. The gloves are a sport time choice and may be swapped out for my Louis Garneau Nanu biking mitts which are hotter and easier to get on and off. I attempted typing with the thinner gloves on but it was sketchy (or sketchier than usual, in any case) so I may go with heat and comfort, even if they are a bit cumbersome.

I look pretty badass with this get up on but unfortunately the runner contained inside is still remarkably pedestrian. Sometimes I really feel like an idiot all kitted up and plodding alongside like a turtle but whatever: phony it you make it.
