Cracking The Code
A couple of on ice incidents involving Alaska hockey Friday night one in Hartford, Conn., the other in Phoenix, Ariz. illustrated a couple of concepts that make up hockey's "code'' and how players police each other.
In the Hartford Wolf Pack's 3 0 win over visiting Worcester in the American Hockey League, Hartford rookie center Brandon Dubinsky of Anchorage was issued a game misconduct for being the third man in an altercation. Turns out, from a story in the Hartford Courant, that Worcester's Brad Staubitz continued punching Hartford's Dale Purington even after Purington went down to the ice during their second bout of the night. That's when Dubinsky jumped in and tackled Staubitz, which earned him the gate. The "code'' in hockey fights dictates that when one participant is knocked to the ice, or falls to the ice, the bout is over. The guy on the ice is usually defenseless in that position, and for the guy on top to keep throwing punches is considered UGG Boots Clearance cheap. Dubinsky no doubt knew he was done for the night when he jumped in, but he no doubt earned respect in his own locker room for coming to the aid of a teammate.
