Review of Teguise Market
Good morning out and back by 14:00.
This is a massive market that takes a few hours to walk around. There are a few stalls selling good quality hand made products but unfortunately now most of the stalls are selling real cheap rubbish. It is still worth the trip for a morning out and the atmosphere is great. There is a small section where they sell local produce, cheeses wines and home grown vegetables etc. there are always plenty of samples to try and some of the local cheeses are wonderful. There is also an area where they have loads of catering wagons, where you can have a nice breakfast or a plate of paella . All in all not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.
Took a planned trip to the market which runs every Sunday morning. It was great. Very busy so don't go if you don't like crowds. Look out for the farmer with his donkey and ferrets!! Market sells lots if fake designer handbags, sunglasses, baseball caps etc. some of the handbags are actually good quality though don't think they can be Prada or Luis at 15 euros!!!! There are also lots of stalls selling more traditional goods inc ceramics and jewellery and plenty of little shops to look in. Look out for the singer in the window above the surf shop. He was great . Also dont miss Jonnys Bakes which is a cafe selling amazing cakes and ppastries and proper tea and coffee. Owners are really friendly and foods are all cooked on the premises. All in all a great trip.
Many market stalls selling a lot of the same thing. Similar to a lot of Sunday markets everywhere. Fake Rolex watches, fake Ray Ban sunglasses, fake everything. They expect you to haggle and you should only settle for half price or less. We were warned by a guide on another tour that the merchants pack up from their shops/stalls elsewhere Oakley Oakley Sunglasses Outlet Clearance Sale Sunglasses Outlet in Lanzarote and set up in Teguise and ramp up the prices as they know the attendees are conditioned to buy little gifts for family and friends and are therefore committed buyers. The merchants have adapted to the markets telling you "special price", "best price" and calling (I assume those they consider British), "Del Boy!". I assume they're challenging the buyer to bargain like Del Boy and making you laugh to encourage sales. If you don't make a deal, they turn away as if you don't exist, very cold. it's quite a seedy exercise of tourist milking. You can expect those toilets to struggle with the volume of people in regards to cleanliness.
