trilogy fight could contravene election laws in the Philippines
Manny Pacquiao's political ambitions to run for senate in Nike Air Max 2016 May could be in jeopardy after The Philippine's Election Commissioner Rowena Guanzon stated that the boxer will have to refrain from boxing matches during his campaign for a senatorial seat in May.
The 37 year old fights Timothy Bradley here in Sin City on Cheap Air Max 2016 9 April, exactly a month before the May elections, and may be penalised if he violates the Fair Election Act.
Guanzon's reservations are that the trilogy fight with Bradley could give the congressman for Sarangani massive publicity ahead of the elections and could draw people into voting for him.
The Philippines grinds to a halt every time Pacquiao fights, with his nickname 'The National Air Max 2016 Womens Fist'. The boxer is an icon in his country, where he has starred in a television soap opera, as himself, and has often held rallies where he sings, prays and speaks to his people.
"They say he's going to have a boxing match. He can, of course, box. That is his privilege, but if he shows his boxing match here, in my opinion, it will have consequences on his candidacy," Guzman told The Star Online.
"I don't want to pre empt the commission. In my opinion, it will have consequences. Let's see if he will decide to have a match and air it here (in The Philippines).
"That (publicity) would be unfair to the other candidates. That is the intent of the law."
However, election lawyer Romulo Macalintal is quoted as saying that if there is any offence under the country's election laws, it would be void because what is expected to be Pacquiao's swansong fight will outside his homeland's jurisdiction by being in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao hit the headlines last week, and was dropped by sponsors Nike, after he claimed that people in same sex relationships are "worse than animals".
