George has for the past 13 years held the position of Chief Constable of the City of Georgetown; a position that no other woman before her has held in this country. Despite her love for her job at the time, George recalls that there were personal overtones that caused her to once again say goodbye to the GNS.“It was really great being there, but for reasons I’d rather not mention I resigned…but they did not acknowledge my resignation so I just walked off…”She then commenced studies in Youth Work with the Commonwealth Youth Workers Association and was duly certified by Ms Benn who was still Mayor at the time. She had also pursued studies at the Critchlow Labour College and went on to the University of Guyana, undertaking the Introduction to Sociology programme.Recognising her ability to perform, George recalls that she was invited to go and work with the Mayor as her personal assistant. She accepted the invitation in 1981.“I came and worked with her but I had to be sworn in by the Police or Constabulary to carry a firearm. I already had knowledge of firearms so I was sworn in at the City Constabulary as a Constable… I was with her (Benn) up in the Mayor’s Office but I was wearing plain clothes.”George said that she enjoyed those years in her dual capacity of Personal Assistant/Constable. So dedicated was she to the position, that she fervently studied the by-laws and was able to deal effectively with everything that related to the constabulary as she performed her duties. “…Reading was important. Just by reading and understanding I was able to gain a wealth of knowledge…and knowledge implemented became wisdom and eventually experience. I got a lot of experience, especially in the fields.”In full ceremonial modeAccording to George, she would go out in the fields with the Mayor, and though she was a shy person, she was tasked with interacting on a continual basis with persons in the wider society. Her work did not go unrecognised as she would soon be promoted to Corporal then Sergeant even before her path was formally directed to the Constabulary department of the municipality.She was encouraged to become a full-fledged Constable and she did. However, realising that it was really “a man’s world” at the time, uncertainty got the best of her. She was so intimidated that she inked a resignation and was just about ready to call it quits when the then Officer-in-charge Mr Vernon Lynch persuaded her to stay on.She was convinced to stay on and would quickly move through the ranks. It was an honour, she recalls, to be recognised as a City Constable; a position that was no less recognised than a Police Officer. “You were respected and persons looked up to you and were able to enforce the by-laws and ensure that the city was a safe place.”It was in the mid-1990s that things would drastically change; she would no longer be required to just enforce the law but help to manage the operation of the constabulary. She at the time was promoted to Deputy Superintendent/Acting Superintendent at the Administration Section and it was at a time, she noted, when several officers were retiring and others were being sent off.Mr. Ferdinand Cranmore, an aged officer, who was acting in the capacity of Chief Constable, was asked to remain an extra year. George was asked to work closely with him and learnt everything there was to know that was required of the Chief Constable. But little did she know that her destiny was to take up the reigns of the Constabulary.“While he (Cranmore) was here I was assisting him a lot and exposing myself to his job and then they advertised for the post of Chief Constable, encouraging applications from within…I was probably the last person to apply,” George speculated. Her application was acknowledged and she was called in for an interview. She was appointed on November 1, 1997 as the first, and so far only, Chief Constable of the City of Georgetown.“I never thought that it would have happened. A 71-year-old technical officer who is accused of forging an Office of the President stamp and using it on anAccused: Frederick Rossofficial letter, was remanded to jail by city Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday.Frederick Ross of Government Compound, Friendship,Air Max Pas Cher En Ligne, East Coast Demerara, was slapped with charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and uttering a forged document.It is alleged that between March 15 and April 4, 2014 at Friendship, East Coast Demerara, he conspired with person (s) unknown to forge an Office of the President (OP) stamp.Ross was also charged with uttering a forged document,Cheap Jerseys Wholesale, in that on April 3,Adidas Neo Sko Norge, last year, at Friendship,Cheap Nike Air Max Wholesale, with intent to defraud, he uttered to Everne Singh,Air Max 1 Scontate, called “Velma,” a letter dated April 3,Cheap Air Max Online Ireland, 2014 with a false OP stamp affixed, purporting to show that same was issued by Office of the President, despite knowing same to be false.He pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.Addressing the court, Ross claimed that the matter was already dealt with by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.Police Prosecutor,Nike Air Max Wholesale Ireland, Inspector Shellon Daniels did not present the facts in court. As the murder trial for Cyon Collier continued yesterday before Justice Winston Patterson, two more witnesses were called to give evidence.Collier is charged with the September 30, 2006 murder of 34-year-old businessman Chandrapaul Persaud called ‘Kero man’ of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara.Prosecutor Judith Gildharie-Mursalin is representing the State,Soccer Jerseys From China, while Collier is being represented by attorney at law Lyndon Amsterdam.First to take the stand was Zaheem Isshack, who is a cousin of the dead man’s wife.The witness gave evidence surrounding what transpired on the day in question. According to the witness, he was eating when he heard Persaud shouting “Thief …Thief”. Isshack said he recognized Persaud’s voice because they were friends for over 15 years. The witness said he immediately dropped what he was doing grabbed a “cutlass” and ran towards Persaud’s home. It was explained that Isshack lived in a house behind Persaud.He said he saw a man standing with a gun at the front – he was about 15 -20 feet away. The court was told by Isshack that he overheard one of the men demanding that Persaud hand over his jewellery and money.Murder accused Cyon CollierAt this point Isshack said he ran back to his home and locked up. Isshack told the court that after he went back to his home, he heard about two to three gunshots. He said when he came outside he saw, Persaud lying on the bridge and he appeared to be dead.At this point, Collier’s lawyer began to cross examine the witness. Isshack was asked if anything about his story was not truthful, and he answered in the negative.He was cross examined for about 45 minutes before the matter was adjourned for the afternoon session.In the later session, retired Police Inspector William Pitt was called to the witness box. He was the officer who conducted the identification parade. She identified Cyon Collier as one of the men who entered her home. Isshack said the men started demanding cash and jewellery from her.The woman said she begged them not to harm her children and proceeded to the bedroom. The court was told that the woman handed over approximately $100,000,Jerseys Wholesale, two gold rings and a watch.Isshack further told the court that after handing over the items to the bandits, she heard bottles pelting in the yard.At this point she recalled hearing one of the bandits in the house shout to a third who was in the yard to “finish that man off”.
